Brian: We have $50 million that we can invest in this budget. CTR is going to get 10 percent of that. But we're hoping to start with an ask of closer to $12 million.
Ted: On page 5, we get to the ask. On pages 2 and 3, we have a lot of text and no pictures. After that, we have a lot of pictures. Can we get better balance?
Ted: I would also like to ask that we be sensitive and thoughtful as we consider whether we want to include language that speaks directly to climate change. We have typically tried to circumnavigate the potential for politics and polarization by trying to mind that gap. I think we should reconsider whether we include that specific language.
Karen: I agree that we should at least consider removing that language. I've spoken to legislators about climate change, and it remains a sensitive issue.
Nancy: I think if we keep the focus on air quality and clean air, I think we continue to hit the mark with that part of our message.
Melissa: I can see it both ways. There's no denying the facts, but we should consider our audience.
Stan: Sounds like we're talking about three potential choices for alternate phrasing: GHG emission reductions, air quality, and clean air.
Ricardo: I think "travel options" has the potential to be more divisive that climate change.
Bryce: That's true, because some will perceive that as restricting freedoms or liberty.
Ricardo: We're going to look at some photo options and some reordering of the body of the document.
By the way, if you receive an email invitation to join a Skype meeting from a name you don't recognize, please accept it. We're still trying to get it working. And please let me know on here if you get the invite, and whether it works. Thanks!
Sounds like we're going to amend the "climate change" language to "air quality".
Amy: If we do that, I still want to reiterate that we're not "playing politics" by specifically referencing climate change.
MOTION: To adopt this plan as modified. Seconded. All in favor; the motion passes.
OK, we're on to our next agenda item: "Identify a Few Flexibility and Streamlining Opportunities to Start Now: Discussion and Evaluation"
